About me
Giovanni Pannico. I am a Homo Sapiens living in History.
I was born in 1980 in Naples and emigrated to Berlin in 2010. As a member of my species, I manifest a desire to understand and influence the world around me. I studied political science and became critical of the power of images. As a member of my species, I also manifest a desire to express myself. Further study and practice in and around image-making brought me to where I am today:
I work as a cameraman and editor in various video formats including documentaries, fiction, interviews and cultural and artistic events. I am a filmmaker with a penchant for the metaphorical and the surreal, I want to inspire questions and doubts, and I believe in cinema’s ability to regenerate the imagination. I am, I think, I do. Like some members of my species, I tend towards self-referentiality.
About this page
This website features a portfolio of my work, including commercial and personal projects. Think of this page as a shop window, inside which lives a monkey. The monkey is trapped in this cage that has the terrible power of invisibility. The monkey licks and scratches that glass; he relates to it, to know it, to oppose it. In this way, the monkey’s tongue and claw marks render visible what is not visible; this is what I want to do with my films. On this page you will find the marks of my work as a director, cameraman and editor. I like to experiment, so my work covers a range: documentaries, short films, promotional videos, music videos, and more.
